Presentation:

Venus seems a pleasant enough young person when you meet her. She's friendly enough, and quite social, and depending on how comfortable she is she can be outright bubbly. She has a tendency towards loyalty and can be very pushy and even emotionally manipulative to get her way, although she does not recognize herself as such. Venus has a tendency to believe she should face problems alone and tends to isolate herself in dangerous situations.

In a group dynamic Venus is sassy but not too overbearingly sarcastic, tending to only speak up when directly addressed or when she holds a passionate opinion. In one on one dynamics, Venus is a bit more playful and snarky, an sometimes outright immature. She has a tendency to feel threatened by other women and attempts to be seductive towards men, unless she's in a relationship at the time. The persona she presents to the public is a sex bomb, but in romantic relationships she is faithful and tentative - she's a virgin, and despite using sex appeal to get her way is not familiar with intimacy and is childishly insecure. She has more bravado than she actually feels, but she does keep a cool head during combat.

Venus is afraid of insects, especially the sensation of them crawling on her. She reacts negatively to public shaming and is deeply afraid of feeling invalidated; thus, she craves the spotlight. She is also afraid to reckon with her darker side and represses it, so she refuses to acknowledge that she is very manipulative and violent, only acting on her more unpleasant impulses against people deemed 'enemies' or when it's justified by the camera.

Motivations: And what's going on on the inside?

Venus hates herself. She blames herself for the death of her whole family, and as such has been seeking a socially acceptable way to die ever since. The life of a celebrity, with its fast cars, glamour, and short life span appeals to her on a deep level for this reason; it's a way she can replace the love she would have gotten from a family with the attention of adoring fans, and then go out with a bang and purpose. She imagines herself a memorable Marilyn Monroe-esque figure, tragic and vaunted as a hero in her death, because she thinks herself to be nothing more than a fraud in life - if you'll pardon the pun, an empty suit. She has cripplingly-low self-esteem.

In her pursuit of stardom, Venus will do whatever the show business asks of her to hack it as a celebrity. In the Games, she's going to go along with killing people with a lot of style and relatively little remorse; back on the X-Statix, killing people and dealing with death was part and parcel to the job, so she's heavily desensitized. She's also not the sharpest tool in the shed, and can be talked in doing a lot of awful stuff depending on how it's framed (see: killing a philanthropist for donating too much to charity, basically).

Venus suffers from bipolar disorder, which she manages through medication and therapy. She attempted suicide three times before finding the X-Statix, a show from which no one escapes alive, as an appropriate substitute for her death wish.

SAMPLES
Thread: Venus at Maison de Portes.

Prose:

"Is this some kind of joke? I don't do auditions anymore. I got a steady gig, I don't need to show off in front of producers, they call me..."

Venus isn't really listening by the time she gets pushed into the training center, in front of a panel of people who are dressed like they have too much money and not enough stylists with taste. Venus, of course, goes into proper form when she's in front of an audience instead of peons (otherwise known as handlers, stylists, managers, interns and agents); these people behind the table are viewers. They expect a certain Venus.

That Venus is one who stands with one hand at her hip, the other hanging loosely. With one legged cocked so her pelvis juts slightly, sensually. With her eyes half-hooded in that cross between looking bored and looking beckoning. Part of this is an act that her handlers and directors taught her, a way to look good and sexy and never get photographed from her 'bad side', but some of it is natural inclinations towards commanding a room.

Some people walk into a room and shrink. Others, people like her, enter and suck attention into them like a black hole. They are endless need incarnate, and all the eyes in the world are never enough to make them feel seen.

"Hi," she says, waving a hand, waving her fingers as if she's shy. "So if I get this right, I'm just supposed to show off my stuff for you?"

"That's right," someone on the panel says.

"Okay. Hand-to-hand?"

"If you can't manage anything better."

Venus leaps into action. She could show off better against an opponent, because most of her style is using their weight and momentum against them, but she's no slouch against a dummy. Being small and slender means she has to compensate with speed and accuracy, and she lands two jabs on the dummy before tilting back to kick it with a roundhouse, flipping on her hands away and landing a second kick on another dummy's head. And so it goes, her bouncing around with acrobatic grace, matching precision with viciousness as the thwack of limbs against dummies echoes in the Training Hall.

When she pauses again, she looks at the judges and giggles, shrugs as if modest, and to top it off, blows them a kiss.

What is your character scored: 10 or 11. Even without her superpowers (healing, energy blasts and teleportation), Venus is in excellent physical shape and trained for combat. She also will appeal to any Sponsors looking for a good time, so to speak - she has a traditionally sexy body and knows how to play to the male gaze. She's survived unscathed from plenty of X-Statix missions getting shot at or tied up like any good super heroine, so she's pretty typical Marvel Hero 616 fare.

Other: I've discussed the spacesuit with the mods, but I was wondering if she could come in in human form, actually, and then I could use the red spacesuit outfit as one of her many Capitol costumes? I wrote the above sample as if she were still in the suit.
